pArc description: In spring of 2015, the Arc erected the area’s first accessible playground, The pArc, so that children of all abilities can play in an inclusive and safe environment. Since then, plans have begun for the rest of the pArc space to include a Sensory Garden. A sensory garden is a space that can be used for a number of purposes including: meditation, horticulture therapy, environment education, sensory integration, and simply a place to go and relax.
The pArc and Sensory Garden is open to the Community. Schools, service organizations, and other groups that wish to use it for environment/garden education, an outdoor classroom, field trips, gatherings, play groups, workshops and any other number of uses. Our own onsite programming will use the Sensory Garden to invite speakers to share knowledge and lead workshops on environment/gardening based topics. The gardens main goal is to serve as a space to come to relax, rejuvenate, and experience the healing benefits of being outdoors and surrounded by natural sensory stimulation.
Recent additions/updates: Summer 2017, The pArc Sensory garden has added 2 raised garden beds and fenced in the pollinator/butterfly garden! The Kiwanis has also continued their support fo the garden by adding a ramp to the garden shed entry, planter beds around the shed and set up a rain barrow for easier access to a water source. A BIG thank you to Larry Kral and The Old Capital Kiwanis for all your time and effort!
