Raising awareness about the needs of people with
disabilities requires community involvement by The Arc of Southeast Iowa. Count
on The Arc to provide community education and public awareness in Johnson
County and surrounding communities.

Community Education

The Arc delivers community education by growing awareness within our community. This year, local area service clubs, University of Iowa classes, and the public library received programming.

Participation in other annual area events encourages advocacy, awareness, and acceptance, such as the ADA Celebration, A5 Festival, Corridor Autism Resource Expo, Miracles in Motion’s Boo in the Barn, Week of the Young Child Celebration, and Iowa City Pride. The Arc also hosts our own client and family fellowship events.

The Arc is active in safeguarding the rights of people with disabilities through governmental affairs and forums. Families and community members can stay informed about legislation on disability issues by becoming a member of The Arc and receiving the newsletter.

Individual & Family Advocacy

Individuals or families may also seek assistance from The Arc for personal advocacy needs. The Arc offers opportunities for education, family support, and family fellowship through various events, seminars, and other opportunities throughout the year.
