Summer Program Goals

The Arc of Southeast Iowa strives to provide a safe, structured environment for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other related disabilities through supervised activities emphasizing social skills, recreational activities, community safety skills and interaction with peers. Activities and environments are designed to encourage health and wellness, promote self-esteem, provide opportunities for community integration and personal growth.

Our low participant to staff ratio allows each participant to receive the attention and reinforcement necessary for personal growth.  We strive to keep higher staff ratios to address the unique needs of our participants.

Summer Program Funding options:

The Arc of Southeast Iowa accepts both Medicaid funding via the ID, HD, and BI waivers as well as private pay. If waiver funding is not an option; they may be eligible for alternative funding.

Children At Home

The Children at Home program is designed to assist families in securing services and supports necessary in helping children remain at home.

United Way Summerships

A Summership provides a K-12 student from Johnson and Washington Counties, who are eligible for Free & Reduced Lunch, with a scholarship of up to $350 for one week or one session at the summer activity of their choice.

The Arc of Southeast Iowa Youth Programs are contracted with the Iowa City Community School District to provide Summer Programming in the districts area schools.

HCBS-funded youth programming is specifically designed to serve children and teens with identified disabilities and support needs. As such, the program operates under defined eligibility, admission, and discharge criteria in alignment with HCBS service requirements. These criteria are made available to families upon request. The program is committed to providing supportive, inclusive services within the scope of its staffing, resources, and program design. Enrollment decisions are made based on the program’s ability to safely and appropriately meet each participant’s needs. When a participant’s needs exceed what can be reasonably supported within the program, the provider will communicate with the parent/guardian to discuss appropriate alternatives or transitions.
